As part of Buckinghamshire’s Grassroots Development Fund award, Wycombe Squash & Racketball Club (WSRC) recently hosted Mini Squash sessions at St Michael’s School and Burford School with the intention of introducing more children to the sport.
The sessions were a resounding success as both schools have added squash to the Spring term Year 5 curriculum for this year.
WSRC held an ESR Teacher's Award at St Michael's which five teachers attended with the aim of delivering Mini Squash themselves. They have asked WSRC coaches to run a Mini Squash lunch time club this half term. Coaches from WSRC will be delivering at Burford School in January.
In addition, WSRC held a festival at the club. Twenty four girls were selected to attend and two have already become members at WSRC.
WSRC Club Coach, Heidi Leseur, said: "Although the numbers are small at the moment, for me the importance and focus is to build the relationship with the two schools and raising the profile of squash in the community to create a sustainable link. So far it has been a promising project for WSRC".
