Peter Symonds, College Sports Maker and England Squash & Racketball have teamed together to introduce Recreational Squash sessions with a difference!
These sessions are open to all students and offer both a competitive and recreational division. Sessions include safety, tactics, skill development and are most of all aimed at having fun. The incentive here is that those who attend at least 10 of the 12 sessions receive a FREE Squash Racket and ball provided by England Squash & Racketball.
Sport Hampshire and IOW provided Peter Symonds College with Sportivate funding of £320 to run the 12 week course. This has been delivered at Winchester Raquets and Fitness; a local Tennis and Squash Club. Sessions started in September and have been a great success so far, with 12 - 15 students regularly attending.
The College Sports Maker, Kitty Yarwood, is hoping those playing will continue into the New Year. She said: “The main incentive here is to provide the students with the tools needed to continue. Those who receive a free racket and ball now have the equipment they need to play.
Hosting the sessions at the local club has also meant they know where to go to find local squash courts as we do not have any on site. These sessions have really allowed students to try a new sport and play with friends.”
